Dar es Salaam to Nanyuki

We jumped over our road travels to tell you all about our little cottage because we were so excited to share our landing spot. The trip up however, was worth showing and telling about...that is once we finally got going.  As is coming to be very typical of our travels we had set our departure time out of Dar for something like 9:00 am and after taking care of a last bit of car insurance and sitting still in traffic for 45 mins waiting to get on the "highway", we were officially on the road at noon.  See ya later Dar.  No plans to see you again anytime soon.
Waiting to get the hell out of Dar.  That carving is from the base of a palm tree.

Arturo the lingusit (speaks fluent italian, english and swahili) with Henry and George after a hot day of play at CEFA hostel in DAR.

Finally on the road

beautiful countryside.  no it's not a one way.

more beautiful road.  but where are all the animals we're wondering.

is this a paid endorsement?

Masaii Mama on motorbike
Usamabara mountains at sunset.  We still had 2 hours of driving ahead of us.  So much for our rule of not driving in the dark.

Finally we made it.

Crackling fire waiting for us in this very charming cabin.

Wow.  This place is awesome.

Hike through the hills where Chris scared a little boy to tears just by being white.

Looks like a poinsettia to me?

Our open air dining room with view of mousebirds eating guava.

John and Sharon from England on their 3 week honeymoon around Tanzania stayed in the cottage next door and made for fantastic dining companions.  They gave Henry their Animal's of east africa book.  Great people.

The boys had differing opinions when this "Cheeseburger" arrived. Should have been named cheese sandwich.
The road to Kenya.  So dry and dusty yet there were villages along the way.
Welcome to Kenya.
Maribou stork welcoming us to Nairobi.
The Equator.
Getting green about an hour out of Nairobi.
Market on the side of the road.  Good will ships containers of stuff over and they end up in these markets.  Wizzy our landlord makes bags from fabric she gets at these markets.  http://www.etsy.com/shop/CastOffs2OneOffs

Wildebeest Camp in Nairobi.  2.5 years ago we stayed here and George bit the owners son Oliver on the arm.  Unfortunately 2.5 years later the owner remembered us.  :(

Soda with dinner has become an end of day indulgence.

Out of order but here are Happy and Johannes at their place in Arusha.  I met Johannes on the lonely planet thorn tree forum months ago.  He was instrumental in helping us get our car.  His wife Happy is a safari guide and very gracious host. Henry and George played with their son Christian and all were sad when it was time to part ways.  But on to Kenya we went.

Look around for a subscribe button so you'll get new posts automatically.  I think I've added the option.
